“But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” – 2 Corinthians 8:7
Tithes and Offerings
The Bible teaches “tithes and offerings” as the benchmark for generosity (Malachi 3:8-12). Tithing is described as bringing “the first fruits” of what you have to God (Proverbs 3:9-10). The word “tithe” means tenth or 10%, and comes from a traditional Jewish practice of giving a tenth of one’s income. Tithing is a spiritual discipline that demonstrates our gratitude for God’s blessings, reminds us that God supplies our needs, and teaches us to always put God first in our lives.
Scripture describes offerings as an expression of generosity and love, given in proportion to our faith, capacity, and gratitude (2 Corinthians 8 and 9).
Whatever you choose to give – 10%, less or more – we hope that you give prayerfully and cheerfully (2 Corinthians 2:6-8).
